Outreach Director

CLARE MATRIX is hiring a freelance Outreach Director to assist with educating health providers and the community on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder for their Medication Assisted Treatment Expansion Project. This position would report to the MAT Project Director and would exist to support this project for the duration of the grant funding the project (12 months). The goal of this project is to implement the Hub and Spoke treatment system throughout California and increase the accessibility to buprenorphine, an effective drug used to reduce the symptoms of opioid withdrawal, by increasing prescribing medical professionals and patient access to this life-saving treatment. CLARE MATRIX is part of the “hub and spoke” system of care in Southern California.



Marketing: In partnership with outside agencies, develop print materials and a project-dedicated website that connect and educate the medical community, prospective patients seeking Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and the general public

Public Relations: Create and implement a public relations strategy that generates awareness about CLARE MATRIX’s Hub and Spoke System and positions the organization as an expert in MAT and a leader in addressing the nation’s opioid crisis

Medical Community Outreach:

  • Identify and educate medical professional groups on MAT using the CLARE MATRIX project experts (a prescribing physician and psychiatrist) via continuing education trainings
  • Promote and drive attendance to continuing education trainings
  • Follow up with training attendees to connect them with resources in becoming an x-waivered prescriber of buprenorphine

General Community Outreach:

  • Create and implement an outreach plan for those using opioids to educate them and/or their families on MAT and connecting them with prescribing providers and/or clinics
  • Create a referral network for prospective patients
  • Educate community groups on the availability and local accessibility of MAT



  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in Public Health preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Writes and edits text at levels appropriate for patients, clinicians, or other stakeholders
  • Maintains effective lines of communication with various constituents
  • Must have excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Works collaboratively and/or independently as the task requires
  • Works well with others at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational, critical / creative / strategic thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Meets deadlines, works well under pressure
  • Understands and interprets medical information and translates it as appropriate to diverse audiences



This is a freelance, 12-month contract with no benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience.
